How did you get your first role without any connections in the industry? I keep hearing you need a famous family name.

— Tharindu

You do not — but you do need to be impossible to ignore. I went to every open audition for two years, did unpaid stage work, and made sure the casting directors remembered my face. My first paid film role came from a director who had seen me in a tiny theatre production nobody reviewed. Keep showing up.

Thank you for watching from so far away — that is exactly why a page like this matters to me. Yes, it is changing. Streaming means a film shot in Kandy can reach the diaspora the same week it opens in Colombo. The budgets are still small, but the reach is finally big.

What is the hardest part of acting in both Sinhala and Tamil? Do you dream in one language more than the other?

Switching the rhythm, honestly — the two languages carry emotion differently, and a line that lands in Tamil can feel too soft in Sinhala. I dream in Sinhala, but I have learned to act in both without translating in my head first. That took years.
